ChatGPT dots vs Meta Muse, compared

ChatGPT dots and Meta Muse arrived three weeks apart, and on paper they aim at the same job: an agent that keeps working after you close the app and checks in when it needs you. The differences are in who can get it, where you talk to it, and how each company keeps it in check. This page compares what OpenAI and Meta have each published. We have not tested either product, so nothing below is a performance claim.

In practice, dots are a paid ChatGPT feature aimed at work and personal tasks across connected apps, while Muse is a personal agent that Meta says is free for most uses and reachable from WhatsApp.

Where they differ most

Access. This is the biggest practical gap. Dots are included with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, not Free, Go or Plus (see pricing), and Pro users in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK are left out at launch. Muse is pitched as free for most uses but is rolling out only in the US. If you are outside both footprints, check our availability page before comparing features.

Where the conversation happens. Dots sit inside ChatGPT and reach into work tools: Slack, Teams and, for some US Pro users, text messages. OpenAI says your dot carries context across every channel. Muse meets people in the Muse app and in WhatsApp, with AI glasses announced as coming soon.

Who says “yes.” OpenAI layers several checks: plugin permissions, custom rules you write, and an Auto-review system that checks certain actions, such as an email’s recipient and content, before they happen. Meta uses a separate Sentinel agent that must approve anything Muse does before it reaches the internet, plus an audit trail of what Muse did.

Payments. OpenAI requires your approval for purchases made with cards saved on a merchant’s site. Meta routes checkout through one-time-use cards from Link by Stripe.

Memory. Meta says you can ask Muse to forget specific things. OpenAI says you can’t yet view or delete individual dot memories, and the only way to remove your dot’s own saved memories is to reset it. Our memory and reset guide covers what reset does and doesn’t delete.

• Exact pricing. OpenAI says your first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium, and usage terms for each plan will follow after the first month. Meta has not published Muse subscription details in its announcement. See each company’s official pricing before deciding.
• Real-world reliability. How well each agent finishes long tasks, handles sign-ins, or recovers from errors is not documented.
• Muse outside the US. Meta’s announcement does not say when or whether Muse will reach other countries.
• Confidential VM. Meta says Muse Confidential VM arrives later this year. We will update this page when it ships.
