ChatGPT dots pricing and usage, so far

OpenAI hasn’t put a standalone price on dots. Instead, your first dot comes with certain ChatGPT plans, and OpenAI has described a usage framework with several parts still to come. This page separates what OpenAI has said from what it hasn’t, so you can see how much is actually settled.

What’s included today

So the cost of a dot, for now, is the cost of a plan that includes it. For plan and region eligibility, including the Pro exclusion in the EEA, Switzerland and UK, see availability. Enterprise workspaces can try dots as a beta, but OpenAI’s announcement describes the included first dot only for Pro and Business Premium.

The first-month usage window

OpenAI describes the launch period in two slightly different ways, and both are worth reading as written.

• The announcement says your plan includes an allowance for deeper work, “with extended limits for the first month after launch.”
• The help center and release notes say: “For the next month, dots usage won’t count toward eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise users’ plan allowances. After this period, we’ll share usage terms for each plan.”

The first describes a larger allowance. The second says dots usage doesn’t draw down plan allowances at all during that period. Neither gives an exact end date.

What counts against your usage limits

OpenAI draws one clear line:

1. Talking to your dot does not count. “Conversations with your dot don’t count toward your ChatGPT usage limits.”
2. Work it hands to other tools does. “When you ask your dot to start or manage tasks in Codex or ChatGPT Work, those tasks count toward your usage limits as usual.”

This matters most for recurring work. A scheduled task that only has your dot read and summarize is a different cost profile from one that has it kick off Codex or ChatGPT Work tasks every morning. With local computer access enabled, OpenAI says your dot can create Work or Codex tasks, so that setting can also affect how much of your normal allowance gets used.

What you’ll be able to pay for later

OpenAI’s announcement says: “In the future, you’ll be able to add more dots, and scale the output of each dot by either increasing its speed or the total amount of work it can take on per month.” That describes three future levers:

• More dots beyond your first one.
• More speed for an existing dot.
• More monthly workload for an existing dot.

No prices, dates or plan limits have been announced for any of them.

The prices OpenAI has published

Only two plan facts in OpenAI’s sources relate to dots pricing:

• The ChatGPT pricing page shows Pro with three usage tiers and lists “Dot, your always-on agent” among Pro features. Among personal plans, Dot is checked only in the Pro column.
• The September 29 release notes say Pro 200 “is available for new subscriptions again at $200/month,” and that “Included usage allowances are changing.”

We don’t list other plan prices here because OpenAI’s sources for this page don’t state them in a form we can cite.
